The PULSE Seed Projects are funded entirely by the Stanford Dean of Research, and are a joint program with SIMES. $300K are awarded for one-year projects with an emphasis on collaboration, Stanford involvement and relevance to LCLS and X-ray science.
An invitation to apply for PULSE seed funding will be announced in Fall 2008.
Written proposals for seed funding should include:
- a cover page, listing hte title of the project, the names of the participants and a summary of the project
- a description of the project, limited to three pages
- a list of up to three potential reviewers outside Stanford, who could be called upon to evaluate the project if neccesary
- a standard D.O.E. budget page, listing the budget requirements
Projects that will receive PULSE seed funding are:
- Studies of new hypotheses, concepts, or innovative approches to scientific or technical problems at SLAC that lie within the missions of PULSE and SIMES
- Collaborations between SLAC faculty and other Stanford faculty in experiments directed toward new scientific ideas, technologies, or devices
- Collaborations between SLAC faculty and other Stanford faculty in theoretical/computational approaches relevant to experiments of PULSE and SIMES
- Ground-breaking applications of ultrafast science or materials science, which could create new fields
