Associate member in task E.3.d. - Electron Transfer Dynamics (Gaffney, Fayer)
and E.4. - Coherent Imaging of Non-Periodic Structure (Bogan).
Bioinorganic chemistry and structural biology. Particular methodology areas of current interest include methodology development for x-ray absorption edge and EXAFS spectroscopy, and their application to the structure – function paradigm in the study of metalloenzymes and related bioinorganic models. This includes reaction intermediates and radiation induced damage, and probing both metals and ligands. Specific systems of current interest include iron and copper containing electron transfer proteins and enzymes, Mo/Fe proteins involved in nitrogen fixation and iron-containing enzymes involved in activation and reaction of dioxygen with organic substrates. Interested in the utilization of short pulse, high brightness coherent x-rays in structural and dynamics studies in biological and bioinorganic systems.
