Interaction of intense x rays and optical lasers with atoms and molecules.
I think about the interaction of intense x rays with atoms and molecules. I am interested in the fundamentally new processes feasible with LCLS: double core hole formation and decay, two-photon x-ray absorption and coherent ultrafast x-ray excitation.
An intense optical laser may be used to prepare the system (e.g., by laser-aligning molecules for a Single Molecule Laboratory) or to control the interaction with the x rays (e.g., suppression of x-ray absorption in electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) for x rays).
